The Bad Stuff (Regarding the new Iphone)

  • It IS fatter 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm verses the original’s 115 x 61 x 11.6mmIt’s fatter in the “exact” measurements sense, but the body of the iphone is actually curved. The specs doesn’t specify the “thinnest” point of the iphone.
  • The sleek metal back is now plastic. It may be less slippy to hold but what about durability and build quality? For $200 bucks, I’m sure it can last at least a year or two
  • GPS is rudimentary working from a top down view, no 3D mappingWtf is 3D mapping?
  • Screen resolution remains unchanged at 480 x 320 when many rivals have adopted VGA:(
  • Incredibly Bluetooth A2DP is still left off so no wireless music enjoymentIt has a headphone jack, nuff said.
  • Video recording unbelievably remains absent:(
Although there is already an application that can do this for the iphone
  • No front mounted video camera, no 3G video callingI’m not a cam whore so won’t be taking pics of myself…nor would i be making any video calls
  • Camera unchanged at two megapixels and no mention of any upgrades (flash, autofocus, etc) this one is a huge let down.:(
  • No details of offline mapping. It’s likely to cost a pretty penny it seemsSolution: AppStore
Alternative Solution: Pirating the Apps on AppStore
  • 8GB and 16GB capacities remain, no 32GB edition for nowWhilst we’re at it, we might as well state what else it doesn’t have. It doesn’t have a fast enough CPU, not enough RAM!, we need it!!!!
  • Steve didn’t define the 3G (7.2Mbit had been rumoured) and it isn’t specified even nowPerhaps it doesn’t need to be defined…hmmmm
  • No wider codec support (AVI/DivX/Xvid remain a distant dream) :( But then again…if ipod Video doesn’t support it why would the iphone? THINK!
  • The dock has been removed from the bundle as Apple strips out costs just as it did when the iPod evolved (it seems unlikely the old dock will fit the curvier profile too)$200…I’m sure with 400 in savings…people can afford to buy a dock
  • No announcement of Flash for the web browserNo loss…except for people like Aaron :P
Okay, so yes, with any phone there are ups and downs. But the review IMO is not very…balanced. It constantly talks about what the iphone DOESN’T have, if say the picture quality of the phone was HORRIBLE, then it’s a negative. If a particular feature is flawed in some way, then it’s a negative, but stuff like “it doesn’t support offline mapping” is not really a negative considering the fact that I’m sure somebody will develop a offline mapping application.
There’s already an app that allows you to take videos at 15fps and is just an example what the iphone can achieve.
But bleh.
