Good good study, day day up!

Happy new year!

So in China we have a saying which literally translated is “Good good study, day day up”. It basically means “Study hard, focus on improvement each day”. I thought it was quite funny since my mum wrote it in an email to my cousin.

We then had a debate where she was saying how it’s a common phrase in English now. I begged to differ. She then said its similar to the phrase “Long time no see” which was also derived from China. I was eager to prove her wrong and then I did a simple google search for the phrase…and the internets proved me wrong. Bob’s your uncle!

I watched the 9 oclock fireworks at darling harbor yesterday with Diana. It wasn’t that spectacular, after the 10 minutes, the entire harbor was filled with smoke and flakes from the fireworks were falling everywhere.

We ended up at Star City and I decided to try my luck on the blackjack tables. I didn’t realise they had $10 tables so I sat down on a $20 table. I picked a table where there were only 2 players sitting on the ends of the table. So I sat down in the middle. The Vietnamese gentleman on my right wasn’t doing so well, cursing every time he got a bad hand and lost. That was fine and all, curse at your own shitty luck but try and not be so bitter at other people’s fortunes.

I won my first hand two hands without much effort, my two cards totaling 18. My third hand totaled 12. The worst hand possible in blackjack. The dealer had a 4 so I decided to stand. The Vietnamese gentleman decided to mock my decision, pointing and saying “ayah” at my cards. Then it was the moment of truth, dealer uncovered 2 more cards totaling 15, I held my breathe and the next card was a 10. Too many! The Vietnamese gentleman did gave out another “ayah” after I won.

Forth hand. I got 11. Decided to double. Next card was a king. Just won $40 bucks on a single hand, that seemed to have ticked off the Vietnamese gentleman, I had won 4 hands and made 100 bucks whilst he had lost 4 hands and lost 80 bucks. That’s karma I guess.

I took my winnings and decided to bail.

I realised that I could have twittered everything in 2 twits, curse you twitter for making things so succinct!
