You are WONG!
Jun 25th
No it’s not a typo.
I find it sad yet oddly amusing that people who I’ve never had a formal introduction with, refer to me as Wong. I often question whether or not they realise my real name is John (surprise!).
Just the other day, when we had the COMP exam, this guy by the name of “Raneel”(spelling?) mistook me for somebody else (whose name just happened to be John).
Him: Whoa! You’re not John
Me: err…
Him: Wait…yes you are…
Me: yeah…
Him: Just not the John I’m referring to
The following chain of events occurred also inside the “Dota Lab”
Tommy: Hey John!
Me: Huh?
Tommy: Not you…
Me: oh right…
Tommy: You’re Wong.
Also today, there was a slightly awkward conversation.
Han: Hey Wong, can you help me with this question…blahblahblah
*5 minutes later
Me: Han! Shouldn’t you be pro at this?! You’re Asian!
Han: *In fob accent* You’re more Asian than me!
Me: What?! No I’m not!
Sam: *laughs and attempts (and fails) to immitate what Han said with a fob accent*
It was slightly awkward. Reason being…people with accents know that they have accents, they don’t pretend they don’t, they know! And when people make fun of it or tries to patronise them with some comment or rather, it does get relatively offensive. I just felt bad that I wasn’t at the receiving end.
Side note: Can people please STOP interpreting FOB as “fresh off the boat” when asked to define fob? It’s come to an extent where the acronym has transformed into another meaning.
E.g.
Person A: What does FOB meaning?
Person B: *think he’s all cool* Fresh off the boat
Person A: *pretends to understand* Ahhhhhh
Damn n00bs.
Hilarious Searches
Jun 22nd
First of all, I would like to say that, I absolutely hate the way that Windows Live Spaces is setup. Before, what would happen is that you have an “admin page” where you see all your settings and stuff, allowing you to move your modules around, so who commented and a good summary of your blogs. Now you have this gay page showing you comments and people on your contact list who’ve recently updated their blogs. Personally, I’d be more interested seeing my blog summary so I can easily, edit, view them. Now a days, I have to make significantly more clicks to what would be relatively simple task.
Ever since I made my blog open again, people land on my blog through unusual ways…here are some recent searches people have made.
Do a search for “wcexo” and you’ll be search to find my blog amongst the search results
Also…check out this blog I made in the past with the most hilarious search ever…
I’ll be posting whatever interesting searches I can find here.
Rape or raped? That is the question.

Update: ISYS was lame…not sure how well I did…have to wait for results to truly find out. But it was a really lame exam…
Lame exams
Jun 16th
Information Systems (ISYS) reminds me of Economics in High School. Ton of information, lots of fancy words to describe something rather “obvious”. If you were to carefully sit down and think about it, it all makes sense but in order for you to put it into fancy words and actually remembering all of the crap can be a problem.
I’ve spent more time studying for ISYS than I have for any other subject…and the biggest problem is that…I haven’t studied that much for it. Most of the time I would sit down and try and study for it…but end up wandering else where on the internet. It’s so boring.
By the looks of things, once ISYS is complete I can finally focus on other subjects. Databases seems like a last minute crammage, since it’s the day after ISYS. I’ll probably, study Maths all day after Databases, and then followed by some C on Friday, followed by Maths and C on Saturday and then C on Sunday. That’s how I like to plan it out but it never works out
*sigh*
I would like a Distinction Average, hoping for a HD average, I haven’t failed any assessments thus far. Using a bit of unix and spreadsheeting skills, I’m ranked 16th in Maths at the moment, out of like 28 people in advanced or around 150 if you include everybody in normal.
I have some plans for after the exams, mainly spending time with you-know-who, catching up with friends and working on my website. I’m thinking of using PHP, mysql, ajax to make it. Going to design a system that replaces this current blog. I’ve also worked out a method to “alert” people on my contact list of any updates to my new site.
What I can do is whenever I submit a new post on the new website, it’ll automatically send an email to “this blog” which will automatically publish an entry linking to the entry on my new website. That way, people will see the shiny star, click on it, visit my blog, and see the link to my site and yeah…you get the idea.
I’ll have 4 weeks to design, code and implement it…hopefully it’ll be enough. I’m also thinking of designing a Photo Album system where it’ll fetch thumbnails directly off Google Photos, and then once clicked it’ll enlarge the photo on the screen ajax style allowing you to traverse back and forth. It’ll save space as the images would be hosted by Google and it’ll also be extremely fast to load since that will also be hosted by Google. But everything is still conceptual, hopefully I can get a working prototype going.
I should go study now. Ciao.

The Bad Stuff (Regarding the new Iphone)
- It IS fatter 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm verses the original’s 115 x 61 x 11.6mmIt’s fatter in the “exact” measurements sense, but the body of the iphone is actually curved. The specs doesn’t specify the “thinnest” point of the iphone.
- The sleek metal back is now plastic. It may be less slippy to hold but what about durability and build quality? For $200 bucks, I’m sure it can last at least a year or two
- GPS is rudimentary working from a top down view, no 3D mappingWtf is 3D mapping?
- Screen resolution remains unchanged at 480 x 320 when many rivals have adopted VGA:(
- Incredibly Bluetooth A2DP is still left off so no wireless music enjoymentIt has a headphone jack, nuff said.
- Video recording unbelievably remains absent:(
Although there is already an application that can do this for the iphone - No front mounted video camera, no 3G video callingI’m not a cam whore so won’t be taking pics of myself…nor would i be making any video calls
- Camera unchanged at two megapixels and no mention of any upgrades (flash, autofocus, etc) this one is a huge let down.:(
- No details of offline mapping. It’s likely to cost a pretty penny it seemsSolution: AppStore
Alternative Solution: Pirating the Apps on AppStore - 8GB and 16GB capacities remain, no 32GB edition for nowWhilst we’re at it, we might as well state what else it doesn’t have. It doesn’t have a fast enough CPU, not enough RAM!, we need it!!!!
- Steve didn’t define the 3G (7.2Mbit had been rumoured) and it isn’t specified even nowPerhaps it doesn’t need to be defined…hmmmm
- No wider codec support (AVI/DivX/Xvid remain a distant dream)
But then again…if ipod Video doesn’t support it why would the iphone? THINK! - The dock has been removed from the bundle as Apple strips out costs just as it did when the iPod evolved (it seems unlikely the old dock will fit the curvier profile too)$200…I’m sure with 400 in savings…people can afford to buy a dock
- No announcement of Flash for the web browserNo loss…except for people like Aaron
Thought of the Day
Jun 11th
I have a thought. Why do people put links in their WLM names? Or better yet…why do they put it in their PMSG?
Actually, I don’t mind links that much, but I guess the question I’m really asking is…why do people put youtube links or any links where the url is defined through a hash in their nicknames/personal message.
For the people that place it in their nickname:
- Your nickname does NOT need to be longer
- Nobody wants to see a line of underlined blue every time you send a message
- You do realise that people will have to:
a) Start a convo with you to copy/paste the link
b) “Rename” your nickname in order to copy/paste the link - If you want to let everybody know of this website…just send it to the people you think that care…
For the people that place it in their personal message:
- Are you aware that it’s not possible to click on the link?
- Are you aware that only those bored out of the friggin minds will bother typing it into their browser?
- Are you aware that it’s not really a “personal message”?
Thankfully, with Messenger Plus! Live you can easily open urls in nicknames/pmsg by using the “open url” function.
On a side note, I actually enjoy opening random links people put in their nicknames/pmsg I just don’t know if they understand that the number of people actually opening them is extremely low.
If I have to be a tech whore I will

Okay, so the the 3G iphone will released on July 11th in the US of bloody A. It features a slimmer design, GPS, better audio quality, better battery life and other crap that I don’t really give a damn about i.e. MS Exchange support and the App Store.
Here’s an image of the new iphone.

Funky.
Anywho, so it also has a 2megapixel camera which could be slightly better in my opinion.
Was originally going for the LG KU990:
Another down side is that the KU990 is nearly its 1st anniversary, so if I join any contracts now I’ll probably end up hating it after a year or less.
Not sure when the 3G iphone will come to Aus though
But if it doesn’t come soonish, then I’ll probably Ebay it
Did I mention that its only US$199 (subsidised by AT&T)? So who knows how much the “real” price is. But $199 definitely beats the crap out of $600.
I’ll be waiting.
Edit:
Did I also mention that the iphone has a HEADPHONE JACK?! You don’t have to use proprietary headphones with crappy audio quality!
