Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence

Quoting my Psych lecturer…
"Do you love your boyfriend? NO! You just can’t find anybody that’s better."
*entire hall cracks up in laughter*
Taking mind off things…
Apr 28th
More and more often, I find myself needing a "sanction" someplace or something to mind off things.
I haven’t done any work all day, and yesterday I spent my arvo napping.
I’ve yet to start my psychology assignment and I barely made a start on my individual prototype for software development.
Then there’s the 3rd upcoming INFO assigmnet which I need to do.
There’s also that Scholarship Ceremony I need to attend which is on the week where both my software and psychology assignments are due.
Not to mention the P test I’ll have to sit before they change the rules.
I also need to do my Psych quiz which is due by Monday.
Well, think I’ll try and take my mind off things again during the next hour.
Perhaps I should put a pencil in my mouth to trick my brain into thinking I’m happy. To think that 70 trillion neurons can mistranslate something as simple as happiness is beyond me.
An analogy…
Apr 25th
Here’s a good analogy of what we do in Foundations of IT(INFO) compared to what we do in Software Develoment (SD).
Let’s say that one day somebody comes along and asks me to make a jigsaw puzzle. That’s exactly what SD is, we are the one that are given a request and we make it. Thus we are the ones making the jigsaw puzzle.
However, when somebody comes up to us and tells us to SOLVE a jigsaw puzzle then it’s a whole different ballgame and that is left to us INFO people.
One course deals with making something, the other deals of solving something. Both are dealing with satifying a problem that is presented.
I’m more of a solving the jigsaw puzzle person. I like puzzles.
INFO is a lot more interesting than SD. We get to learn all aspects of computing whilst in SD we’re given minimal practice (they expect us to practice at home). The problem with expecting us to practice programming at home is that it’s hard coming up with something to do. It’s like your maths teacher telling you to solve maths problems without giving you anything to solve. They somewhat expect you to conjure up problems yourselves and then solve it.
During SDD in High School we were given mini projects to undertake and that made things a lot more interesting.
Anywho, I’ve gotten rid of the "My" prefix. I had originally renamed my folders to "My Computer" etc but then due to inconsistencies I finally changed it back to just "Documents" and "Pictures". However, all my custom folders all have the "My" prefix such as "My CD" and "My Work". Hehe, you may wonder what "My Cd" is. Previously it was where I kept my "WCEXO" cd…which basically contains all these general purpose apps for the pirater etc. Hehe, now it’s become the directory for keeping all my essential FREEWARE apps. Only Office is illegal on my computer, everything else is legal, I uninstalled WinRar and replaced it with 7zip which I have to say is pretty damn good.
Another thing…I won an entry scholarship for IT. I hear that it’s a lucky dip? If it is then it’s pretty shity. I mean sure, I can’t remember me ever winning a draw but I do not want to win a draw for a scholarship (not that I’m going to reject 2k). I wonder who the other IT/CST "winner" is. Do I deserve it? I’m not too sure…
Sitting here thinking…
Apr 23rd
Man, I gotta say today’s lecture was the first proper lecture where I didn’t doze off…not that I was paying that great attention to the lecture.
During that lecture I realised how vulnerable we are to societies "guidlines".
It’s like our lecturer was standing at the front and everybody was talking. He was just standing there waiting.
I simply went "Shhh!" and the ENTIRE lecture hall just shut it’s trapholes in less than a second. I was pretty amazed at how such a simple thing can do so much.
It’s always the little/simple things that makes the biggest of differences.
So you know…help some newbs to make this a better world to live in. I’ve helped a newb today. I feel fulfilled.
So take my advice. Help a newb a day to keep sodomy away.
Got 5 Minutes?
Apr 18th
So angry at myself for not having enough time to do the last question…for info prac…
Just did it in under 5 minutes…
number = int(raw_input("Enter number:\n"))
base = int(raw_input("Enter Base:\n"))
result = ”
if base >= 2 and base <= 9:
while number >= base:
result = str(number % base) + result
number = number / base
print str(number) + result
base = int(raw_input("Enter Base:\n"))
result = ”
if base >= 2 and base <= 9:
while number >= base:
result = str(number % base) + result
number = number / base
print str(number) + result
*sigh*
On the plus side I managed to get 6 out of 10 for my Maths Quiz. The average was 5… To tell you the truth I was expecting a 3…considering how other people went…but yeah I’m pretty happy with myself. I felt pretty good about the info prac, except I could have made my decimal to binary converter 3 lines shorter cause I wasn’t thinking straight under the pressure…only realised when I got on the train…silly me.
Consistency
Apr 14th
The title for my blog has been like that for pretty damn long, I reckon it’s a pretty suitable title don’t you think? The tagline is perhaps not so anymore but I’m just going to leave it there .
I remember this one comment on my blog once by some total stranger, it was complimenting the fact that I don’t blog about how I wasted I was over the weekend etc rather blogging about something of some interest/importance. I still don’t blog about how wasted I was over the weekend but then I doubt I blog about anything of interest or importance.
It’s funny, before I would actually think up of stuff to blog about…like whenever something interesting or questionable occurs I would go "Hey, wouldn’t that be something fun to write about?" but over time I would sit in front of my PC and prepare to write something only to have nothing to write just go "Alt F4".
I still check up on my blog every now and then…checking to see if anybody commented…I guess it’s rather hypocritical of me to expect comments when there’s hardly anything to comment on. I’ve also realised a trend in comments.
If I were to write something extremely deep and meaningful that get’s a fair bit of comments. If I write something emo, I get like 1 or no comments. If I something that’s rageaholic, I get a couple…however, if I write something remarkably funny, I get heaps.
Well nothing funny has happened to me…I slept next to Kelvin at Diep’s sleepover, but comeon that’s hardly exciting. I woke with an empty space next to me and a foot hitting my back. I told Dennis to lie down and he did so almost too quickly…
…but he also jumped up after I let out a loud, warm piece of morning fart. Ahaha, I’m sure it was something everybody would have enjoyed.
I finished watching Chobits about a week ago and behind all it’s pervertedness (like fantasising about your teacher, land lady or a schoolgirl) it sorta touches on some philosophical stuff.
If say…somebody that you’re close to lost all of their memory, woke up with no idea who you are or who themselves are, would they still be the same person or someone different? Would you still be able to get close to them? If they had loved you would they still love you over time? But what if it’s an seemingly inanimate object? What if it’s a robot? Say, someone invented true AI. Would you rather have the robot "die" or start over with all of its "memories" gone?
If I were to lose all my memories, who would remember me? I’m sure you can name some people who you think are isolated, "friendless", alone…what would happen to them if they were to forget about everything?
What if somebody that you hated died? Would you have any compassion?
You hear so much crap about global warming these days, it’s making me sick. The 60 EARTH HOURS thing that they had on, did it really make a difference? Is global warming even real? You hear people bitching about it but how do you know it’s actually affecting us? They were bitching about how last years January was the hottest January ever recorded…yet they failed to mention that the February was recorded as being the coldest. Microsoft is a lot more in its humanitarian efforts. For every search you perform on www.live.com they’re giving money to an organisation to help save "STUFF". Then there’s the "I’,m" project, where for every convo you particpate in with the "I’m" emoticon Microsoft funds the organisation of your choosing.
Who actually cares?
Microsoft claims that its power saving features in Windows Vista can save companies US$70 per year per computer. Who gives the shit how much money each computer can save, I’m sure they can save a lot more if they manage to turn off the lights to it’s buildings at night. You have all these hybrid cars these days, nobody in their reasonable mind would ever buy one, since with the price difference you can buy enough fuel to last you until you need a new car.
Another thing that allows me is how they go "If you do this and this you’ll save this much of Co2 emissions being released into the environment". That sounds like bullshit to me…just because you’re not using electricity doesn’t mean it’s not being produced. I doubt they ever slow down the production of electricity.
Save the environment. Yes. Good thing we need to work on. Who actually cares? Not many people. I mean, sure it sounds like its for a good cause but people aren’t going to stop what they’re doing and actually bother! Okay, here’s what I think happened…
A: Hey honey, it’s time to switch off all the power!
B: Why?
A: Oh ummm….we need to save the planet from global warming.
B: *suss look* Since when did you care?
A: Since when didn’t I care about cute pandas dying from the heat and the dolphines having not enough fish to eat?
B: Wow looks like you reall do care…how do we have to switch the power off for?
A: Just one hour.
B: In the mean time why don’t we have sex?
A: SCORE!!!
Just watch…I bet 9 months from the 60 EARTH Hours thing there will be a slight baby boom. Perhaps that’s the real goal behind it, not raising awareness for global warming but just a subtle method of increasing Australia’s child birth rate, to stop further migrants into the population, generating babies to support the aging population of Australia! Looks like I’ve hit on something!
But in all honesty, I am pretty green when it comes to the environment. I turn off my monitor when it’s not needed, I recycle, I catch the train to UNI
That aside, what’s this fuss over David Hicks?
Every week I see these people outside Carslaw or Fisher library, handing out fliers to free David Hicks. You know what ran through my mind when I saw a flier that read "Free David Hicks"? I thought that there was another dude named David Hicks and he was some sort of Comedian and they were handing out tickets to see him. SERIOUSLY! If I actually had the balls I would probably rock up to those people and ask why they care about this guy, they don’t know him so why do they actually care what happens to him? Nobody gave a flying fuck when Saddam Hussein died so why bother with this pawn? I don’t wanna get all political since chances are I might get kapwned by someone.
Alrighty…time to finish off.
Bye bye peeps.
Gym
Apr 6th
Been going to the gym for a while now. I do feel stronger
Hehe, I pretty much know all the machines I use. Most of the machines I can do about 25-30ish. Except for chest press which I can do about 20ish, leg press which I can do about 60+, and preacher curls which I can do about 40.
I think I’m going to stop leg trainings for a while and focus on upper body. Legs just absolutely kills me. You get this nauseating feeling, your mouth gets dry, my heart races and my ears sometimes just get blocked.
So instead, I’m going to just try and focus on biceps/triceps, chest and abs. Shoulders and back can go somewhere in between those. But yeah, it’s always nice to see improvements.
Arm wrestle anyone?
Wouldn’t mind taking on the ‘mega fauna’
Ahaha.
I don’t think I’ll ever be as tank as the Spartans in ’300′ but if I can get somewhat close I’ll be pretty damn happy. I still only weigh 65 though
Was hoping to reach 70 by end of semester. I’m still finding it difficult to study. Damn uni.
I wonder how many pushups I can do. Ehehe, one time I sorta tested myself, and I was able to do about 50 pushups in one go. I’ll do some now to somewhat make up for today (damn gym was closed). No I’m not a gym junkie, it’s just the thought of being fit appetising.
Okay I just did 40 pushups
Hmmm…ah well. I’ll leave it here for tonight. Start a fresh tomorrow.
Folding@Home
Apr 2nd
I don’t know why I’m into it but it just feels somewhat good. Like instead of doing nothing when it’s on and contributing to “global warming” it can help scientists understand proteins better in order to fight diseases! Booyah!
Anywho, for all the HIGH06 people reading this the Team Number is 63560 so sign up!!!
Here’s the download link for Windows Users:
Users of other Operating Systems can get it here:
So do it! Do it now!
100% Legit
Apr 1st
As some of you may have known…I won myself a free copy of Windows Vista Business!!! W00t! I was thinking of selling it and then getting Ultimate through my good friend "utorrent" but I decided that I’ll be a good citizen *nods*
Yes I’m on my road to becoming 100% legit. Currently there are only one illegal application on my comp which is Office 2007
But I’ll get my dad to buy me the Ultimate version off itsnotcheating.com.au for 75 bucks making my comp 100% legit. Everything I run is pretty much all freeware. I even downloaded a neat little proggy called "Deepburner" which will be my burner app from now on. It supports everything that I’ll ever need to accomplish so I’m happy with that
However, I’ll need something replace WinRar, unless I happen to buy it
How much is the licence anyway? I have like 38 more days until it expires
Anywho, I’ve gotten used to Vista already…a lot faster than I had imagined. I love my wallpaper
and I can see why Aero is so damn good
I’m getting rather paranoid with the loss of data so I tend to backup all my important documents once a month
In fact I’m doing so right now
The only thing that I dislike about using DeepBurner is the fact that it only supports the Joliet Filesystem. For those n00bs out there, this is BAD.
God why am I using so many emoticons here?
Anywho, I think I’ll be formating my "D" driver formerly known as "C" drive. In other words my XP partition, and replacing it I shall be installing Ubuntu! Ahahaha.
I’ve got a maths quiz on wednesday so I really should be studying for it but instead I’m writing this blog.
Even though XP is now in the past I still decided to keep elements of it on my Vista. E.g. the "my" prefix. I’ve renamed all my folders to "My" something. Ahaha, I shall hold on to it forever. Unless it causes problems
Ah well.
Vista + Ubuntu FTW!!!
